Lucky Duck

April 7th, 2008 by Hikaru

Okay, seems I am blessed with the best luck in history. Or something. It’s been less than a month since I arrived to Canada, and when I first got here, things looked pretty grim. Remember?

Now, let’s go through this quickly. To get a life there are certain things you need.

- Get an ID (check)
- Get a job (check)
- Get a home (check)

All that in less than a month. Incredible? More like the best luck this century!

I scored a basement apartment for 500$CAD a month. And am working as a Web Designer for 13$CAD the hour. No benefits but heck it’s a job right? My working hours are from 11am to 6pm too, which is crazy amazing for a nocturnal person like me, it means I don’t have o get up at 6 in the morning!

And if I don’t like how it’s going, in two months I can apply (and practically ensured contract) at Peel Police as Help Desk Analyst, with any training that may require for free, and an entry 18/hr plus benefits of working for the government are the best.

I cannot believe how lucky I’ve been XD

Days Gone By - Procrastination

November 13th, 2007 by Hikaru

With end of year speeding up to meet me, time seems to fly by at an accelerated rate, that makes me realize just how much time I let go by in idle things. It’s not that I’ve been totally unproductive but more like I’ve been idle in things a bit more geared towards moving on in life. I’ve been giving the excuse that I don’t want to tie myself down here and want to move to Canada, but even the steps towards that goal have been slow in coming.

I’ve been getting very hyped up by working for petsites and with a few friends are outlining possible ideas for our own. It’s a big undertaking but if it succeeds I could be that much closer to becoming independent and working for what I like to do the most. Right now I’m active at a fansite called Leopets, which isn’t paid, thus there isn’t much to be gained in financial terms. But… I see it as a playground for development for when we move on to our own, 100% original site. Wish me luck there, I’d really like to see it succeed, specially since I would be expanding the work I’ve put into the Niflheim/Valhalla worlds.

My countdown for end of year and the Start of my Life is two weeks.

Wish me luck!

Muppet Matrix

April 6th, 2006 by Hikaru

Ok, so yeah, I haven’t posted in a while XP My bad… I’m starting to look like Xaethos and his sporadic postings. I’m still alive though, and this saturday I’ll be officially a year older, yay for me! I found this really great and funny video that many of you will like, I hope.

I’ve been cooped up in my room quite a bit these last few weeks, but I do have a lot of stuff going on in terms of projects. I am working to put SouthAmericanVisit on the net, but you won’t be able to access it for a while, we haven’t even gotten hosting yet. I’m also going to animation classes, and that’s fun, although it seems to be making my neck hurt XP I still have to get used to animation tables I guess.

Mood Video

March 6th, 2006 by Hikaru

Here’s a video I did last semester for classes. I decided to use Google Video upload service to be able to easily stream it on my blog now, and later on my portfolio page (once I have that ready). The idea of the video was to take once sequence and using three different songs give it a different atmosphere.

And since my video’s horrible, I recommend you go view this dynamic flash video project. It takes the info of the place you live to dynamically affect the patterns/colors used in the video. Very interesting project and use of flash.

Professional Practice

January 5th, 2006 by Hikaru

So I’m finally working at an actual office, with a 7 hour work schedule and I’ve already done some things I’ve been asked to do. Not incredibly much, but it’s fun seeing stuff you make actually get printed and given out to a client (even if I didn’t see that last part happen). So far I’ve been helping out with graphic work, since these guys don’t actually offer webpages (since they don’t have a webpage designer) but I am supposed to be working on their own webpage once we get control over it (since right now they don’t even have ftp access to it). I hope the server it’s on has php and mysql support, or else I’ll have to do a crash course on aspx and database handling for that language. I do have some knowledge of asp so that should help some, but since I haven’t used it for over a year, I have a lot of brushing up to do.
