Review: Batman Begins

June 22nd, 2005 by Hikaru

Batman BeginsRating: 5 stars

Opinion: The movie was great. I haven’t seen all the batman movies, but this one is the best I’ve seen, and from comments from my friends that saw it with me, they all agreed to this. The theme is darker, more true to the original comics, and the costumes and cast really work well.

The only thing I missed was to see Gotham City a bit more ‘gothic’. After all, Batman, as a story is themed off the gothic period, and I am used to thinking of the city as a very gothic, dark place, full of gargoyle statues and the like. I didn’t see any of this in the movie, with the slight exception of one profile shot of Batman atop a church.

Category: Action / Adventure / Crime / Fantasy / Thriller
Director: Christopher Nolan
Actors: Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Katie Holmes.
Duration: 141 Minutes (Aprox.)
Rating: Rated PG-13 for intense action violence, disturbing images and some thematic elements..

Giving it all

June 22nd, 2005 by Hikaru

I am getting tireder as the days go by, I can’t wait for vacations to start. Xae’s gonna go with me to my northern home for two weeks, so I’ll have company. I have hopes to advance in our story/comic while we’re there as well as maybe work on my own webpages, since I haven’t been able to advance all that much lately due to all the work pressure from Uni. I’ve barely had enough time to work on the website commision.

Hopefully by the end of this week I can finish the first part of coding design, so I can get the first half of payment. I’ve been using up so much money lately that the money sent by my parents isn’t nearly enough. Couple to that an extra heavy paybill from the cel phone and a big chunk of payment towards my scanner/printer, I’m flat out broke, even with the extra $20.000.- I got from my dad to help pay the telephone bill.

I’ve been trying to get art commisions, but I haven’t yet heard from anyone. Maybe I put the prices too high… Or maybe I’m just too impatient. If I don’t get any commisions by the end of next week, I’ll lower the prices to see if I can get some for vacations.

Harry Potter vs The Bible

June 15th, 2005 by Hikaru

I was curious as to what Xae said in his blog the other day about the Harry Potter books rivaling the Bible in ammount of copies sold. So I did a Google search…

According to Drink from the Furry Cup:

It was announced today that the number of copies sold of ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ have over taken sales figures for the previous all time best seller ‘The Bible’. The author of ‘The Bible’, God, admitted to being “a bit miffed” about this.

Now, while this site is a fictional, satirical news-reporter, the article is so funny, it’s really worth a read. I kept looking at the lists, and came up with another page, this time, IPL FARQ and came up with this:

“No one really knows how many copies of the Bible have been printed, sold, or distributed. The Bible Society’s attempt to calculate the number printed between 1816 and 1975 produced the figure of 2,458,000,000. A more recent survey, for the years up to 1992, put it closer to 6,000,000,000 in more than 2,000 languages and dialects. Whatever the precise figure, the Bible is by far the bestselling book of all time.”

That’s a pretty impressive number, and I think its bigger than that of the HP books…

Pile-up and Neckache

June 15th, 2005 by Hikaru

I swear teachers get together to organize the handing out of homweork and big projects… This week has been nothing but work, and I’m tired! I think every course I’m taking has asked for a hand-in this week, and I’m having a lot of troubles handing them all in. One I already left for the end, and didn’t give in was for my Digital Audio class, since so far I’ve been doing fine, and I could afford not to hand it in without fluking it. I still have to speed-finish an image for Vectors class, that’s looking really neat, but I’m really pressed for time to finish it, not to mention the fact that I still have to fo print it at a pritner office, because the teacher wants a large version of it for the hand-in… and I also have to paste it onto a cardoard and cover it in transparent paper as well!

And just to make everything even better, yesterday on my way home I somehow managed to sprain my neck, so it’s hurting a lot, and I’m gonna have to go see the doctor, since sleep, a hot compress and a pill did nothing to help. But I don’t really have the *time* to go see a doctor right now, because I am already pressed to finish all the stuff.
