Personality

Numax is a teenager that loves acting cool and aloof. He's playful and loyal with his friends with whom he loves getting into adventures, even when some of them aren't as fond of danger as he is. He dreams of being an intrepid discoverer of new worlds, pirate of the high seas or a leader of a group of heroes. His older brother, Ryuu, is still trying to convince him that he'd best stick to the first option.

His best friend is Harsiesis, his cousin the desert shoyru, since they share the same love of adventure. However, they never can decide where they like it best, since Harsiesis prefers the ruins of Quasala and Numax prefers those of Geraptiku. They usually end up alternating both anyways, as well as other places of Neopia.

Family

Numax jumps up. Okay, now that my owner's done talking about my personality, (I woulda said all that myself, but she said I wouldn't be truthful..) now *I* get to talk about my family!

Fuuko-chan: This shy little grundo is the youngest of the family, and the lab pet. She was adopted on a whim of Hikaru's and none of the siblings quite understands her really. She's not too bad though, just a tad bit boring. She tires easily and is a scaredy-cat, so I just ignore her most of the time.

Misora-chan: Classical example of a chick, she loves to go shopping, pamper herself at the salon and get together to chat with her girlfriends. I drive her nuts when I get into her makeup, she's fun to tease and too slow to catch up with me.

Morino Ryuu: The oldest of the family and a bit of a grumpy loner. His life had a big change recently though, through an encounter with Boochi and the lab-ray, but I think it was all for the best. His new phoenix look suits him fine and he smiles more often. He cares for all of us and can be quite protective when he needs to, but is fun because even if he's hard to convince, he always comes with me on my crazy adventures.

Hikaru: Our crazy owner (aren't all owners crazy?) is an anime fan who loves to write and draw in her spare time and works making webpages the rest of the time. She's a fun owner though, and I enjoy being with her. Misora says she's on Neopia too much time, which I don't mind at all really, since that means she never leaves us abandoned for long. She's also obsessed with fishing, and takes us to Maraqua up to 5 times a day to fish, even though she already got the titanic squid avatar.

My First Adventure

This adventure will be submitted to the Neopian Times and pet spotlight if Numax finds his way to my home, hopefully, this will grant him his first trophey!

Ryuu was on his way to the market with a shopping list in his claws. His owner had accepted a kitchen quest and had sent *him* to do the shopping instead of going herself, saying it would serve as training for him in case the flotsam decided not to give him the stat raise when he got the items back.

It wasn't too hot so he had finally accepted and he could already see the market. One of the advantages of living in Neopia Central was that everything seemed closer to home. There wasn't much traffic on the streets, so he saw the small Xweetok running his way quite a bit before the neopet caught up with him, but he was still taken by surprise when the critter scurried behind him and hid behind his long tail and wingspan.

"Woah there, what's wrong?" said Ryuu as he stopped and looked behind him.

"Help me and I'll tell you about it later!" Said the Xweetok very quickly. Ryuu sighed, and nodded slightly. Looking around, he saw a girl walking up the path towards them, seemingly looking for something... or someone.

"Ok, go hide in the bushes, and wait for me to call you." He said finally, pointing to the bushes that lined the street. The Xweetok nodded and in a flash was gone, as the girl came close enough to talk.

"Hey there, pteri, sir." Said the girl as she stopped to catch her breath. "By any chance, have you seen a faerie xweetok pass by here?"

Ryuu shook his head, "The street's been quite lonely here, I think I would have spotted him if he came this way."

The girl sighed, hands on her hips as she looked around. "Darn! I was sure he'd come this way!" Turning back to Ryuu she smiled, "Thanks anyway... if you see him, tell him to come home before it gets dark."

With a nod and a wave, Ryuu watched as the girl trudged on down the street. When she had gone on far enough, Ryuu flew over to the bushes, looking behind them to see the small xweetok looking through the branches.

"She's gone, but she wants you home by sundown." He said conversationally. "Why *did* you run away anyways? She doesn't look like a bad person..."

The xweetok frowned slightly. "She isn't... not really." He sat against the tree and looked at Ryuu. "My name's Numax, and she adopted me a while ago. We've had a lot of fun and all, but a few days ago she put up a notice that I'm up for adoption. She's a foster parent, so she's getting all these applications for me, and I got scared. I like it with her, and I don't like the idea of her choosing some other person or family for me to be with! She hasn't even talked it out with me!"

"So... basically, you don't wanna be forced to go to someone's home picked by her?" The xweetok nodded. "But don't you trust her ability to choose the perfect place for you at all?"

The xweetok scrunched up his nose as he pondered this. "Well... maybe I should... she does worry about me..." Ryuu nodded as he smiled. "My name's Ryuu, what's yours?"

"Numax..."

"Listen, Numax, why don't you come over to my place, and we could act like we just adopted you, a family you've never seen, so you can see how bad it would be."

Numax looked at the large bird suspiciously. "How do I know you aren't going to kidnap me?"

Ryuu laughed, "Take it as an adventure. Besides, I'm not gonna tie you up or anything!"

Numax brightened up at the thought of adventure and he jumped up. "Ok!"

Laughing, Ryuu nodded, "Fine then, first we go to the market, my owner gave me some things to buy. Then we'll take the ferry to Mystery Island."

With a whoop both pets set off for the market. It took them half an hour to gather the ingredients needed and then 5 more to get onto a ferry, but they were soon on their way to Mystery Island. The day passed quickly as they explored the island and they were starving when they got back to Ryuu's home in Neopia Central.

"What's that smell?" Commented Numax as they approached the house.

Ryuu grinned, "It's the garden. Our owner has a fixation with cheery blossoms, so we have a whole bunch of them in the front yard."

As the garden came into view, over a hundred blossoms could be seen swaying in the afternoon breeze. Numax laughed and ran towads them, running around the columns of neatly planted flowers. Finally they entered the house. Ryuu's owner and siblings were there to greet them, and there was cookies for everyone. Numax had a great time and totally forgot about the fears he had that morning.

When the sun had set, Ryuu came up to Numax who was playing in the back garden with Grus, Ryuu's petpet. "My owner called yours, and she's coming to pick you up."

Numax's eager face saddened a bit. "I had fun here. Thanks for showing me all this. I think I'm not as worried now about going to a new home."

Ryuu smiled, "Told you it wasn't so bad! Every family has it's quirks and stuff, but I'm sure you'll be happy wherever your owner sends you. She cares for you a lot, and will be sure to choose one that will love you as much or more than she does."

Numax nodded, "Yeah, I know." He playfully pawed Grus's belly as he lay on his back in the grass. "It would be great if I could come live with you guys..." he said softly.

Ryuu grinned mysteriously. "You never know..."

Numax looked at him inquiringly, but before he could ask, he heard his owner's voice from the front. Ryuu pushed him a bit and Numax ran out front. Ryuu stayed behind, listening to the encounter.

"Numax! I was so worried about you!"

"Sorry... I was just afraid of leaving your side... of you choosing a family for me..."

"Oh Numax, you silly boy, you know I'd ask you too if you like the family that I choose! You are very important to me, and I want you to be happy!"

"Really?"

"Of course! After all, that's why I adopted you in the first place..."

Ryuu peeked around the house and saw Numax walking beside his owner, as they left the house. He grinned, it would be fun having that kid around the house, but he hoped that if he did go somewhere else, he could see him again.
